NIGHT DEVOTION

NIGHT PRAYER Fear thou not; forI am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. From: Isaiah 41:10-11 INSPIRATION The promise God gives His people here is extremely powerful and incredibly encouraging. If we apply this promise to our own lives, we can take heart. God has our back! No matter what our enemies have in store for us (and believe it: if you serve the cause of Christ, you do have enemies!) God has it covered. He tells us not to fear or be anxious because He holds us in his "righteous right hand." We are protected by His power and His might. Not only will He protect us, but He will punish those who come against us. They will be "'shamed" and "dishonored" and will eventually peris...

NIGHT PRAYER Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. From: 1 John 4:15 INSPIRATION A confession of faith is the cornerstone of Christianity. This confession is required to any Christian for salvation. But it cannot be just a confession of words. It must be a confession of the heart. When we believe in our heart and confess with our mouths that Christ is the Son of God, we are saved. God then abides in us, and we abide in Him. PRAYER Lord, I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is Your Son, who died for my sins. I confess Him with my mouth and seek to follow Him all my days. I thank You for sending Your son to die for me. I thank You for abiding within me and may I abide with You, my Lord. Amen.

NIGHT PRAYER For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. From: Romans 5:6-7 INSPIRATION It is amazing how selfish we can be sometimes. A line of traffic on a busy street. We've been waiting for what seems like forever at a traffic light. Out of the corner of our eye, we see a car trying to pull out of a parking lot, the driver desperately looking for an opening. We avert our eyes and grip the steering wheel, determined not to give an inch. Someone else can make that sacrifice. Selfish, our selfish nature makes it very difficult to understand the great sacrifice Christ made for us. When we were useless sinners, when we were absolutely powerless, He chose to die for us. Sinners...who hated God, who delighted in the very things God hates. He died for us. It's hard to get our selfish brains wrapped around that notion. We were on the ver...

NIGHT PRAYER And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. From: Romans 8:28 INSPIRATION This verse tells us that "all things work together for the good of those who love God." If we love God, then we live in obedience. The "all things" refers to the providence of God and all the things that relate to Him: His Holy Spirit, His love and mercy, His truths, etc. All of these things come together for our good if we love God and show that we do by our behavior. But it's not only required that we love God, but that we are called according to His purpose. This refers to the purpose that God has set before us. He calls us to a specific purpose in this life. As long as we are obedient to this purpose, to His call, then all of His resources come together tor our good. This is a very encouraging scripture to let us know that, if we follow the will of God, everything will be okay with us. More ...

NIGHT PRAYER   Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. From: John 15:16 INSPIRATION In this scripture, Jesus explains to His disciples (including us), that He chose us. Traditionally, in Jewish culture, a person would choose his own Teacher. In this case, Jesus makes it clear that these disciples were chosen by the Teacher, instead. This applies to us today as well. Christ has chosen us; we didn't choose Him first. Not only has He chosen us, He has ordained us to be fruitful, meaning that we are to be productive and successful in spreading the Gospel. We were set apart for this purpose by Christ. Christ expects this fruit to "remain" or be permanent. Whatever good work we do for the Kingdom should be lasting and eternal. When we bear good fruit in this way, the consequences are that our prayers will ...

NIGHT PRAYER Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; From: 1 Corinthians 13:6 INSPIRATION The city of Corinth had been an evil place, full of idol worship. After Paul came into the city and preached to them, and they had been converted, they had a difficult time shaking off the old ways. There was still a lot of immorality in the city, perversion, and evil behavior. Paul teaches them in this scripture that love does not delight in evil, but that it rejoices in the truth. It's very common for people to enjoy watching other people mess up. We see television evangelists, for example, who fall into sin publicly and people seem to take some kind of pleasure in that. We see celebrities who seem to have it all and get involved in some scandalous lawsuit and we take delight in their mistakes. That's not love. We shouldn't love seeing people make mistakes, and we certainly shouldn't love the fact that any other person is trapped in an immoral life. Love seeks the ...

NIGHT PRAYER When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. From: Isaiah 43:2-3 INSPIRATION In this passage, God gives us several examples of how he protects us: both in fire and flood. These are two of the most destructive elements on earth, yet God promises to keep us safe from the harm of both the "sweeping waters" and the "flame." He promises that we will not be Overcome, even in the midst of danger. What a mighty God we serve! What a Savior is this! PRAYER Father, thank You for protecting me from the deep water and the burning flames. You fight my battles so that I am not overcome. With You by my side, I am never alone. Amen.

NIGHT PRAYER: Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee. From: Proverbs 20:22 INSPIRATION: We have a human desire to get even. When we are wronged, we want revenge. We want to take "the law into our own hands." But this scripture tells us that we are not to do that. We are not to "repay evil with evil." We are to wait upon the Lord. He will fight our battles. After all, didn't He say "Vengeance is mine. I will repay"? How is it that don't trust Him to avenge the wrongs done to us. God will not fight any battle that we have chosen to fight ourselves. It is not our place; it is God's. PRAYER: Father, I ask You to fight my battles for me. Help me to wait on You and not take matters into my oWn hands. You are more than capable of avenging me. I thank You for that. Anen.

NIGHT PRAYER: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. From: James 4:7 INSPIRATION: It's the classic bully scene. Opie Taylor (The Andy Griffith Show) faces the bully who has been extorting his milk money. Opie faces his fear, and braces for the punch. Then...he laughs. He realizes that his worst fear has come to pass and it was not a big deal. In fact, he takes matters into his own hands and "tears into" the bully. In the end he gets his nickels back. He has conquered. Any bully works the same way. Satan is no different. When we stand up to him, prepared to battle him, he has to "flee." When we resist him, we prove that we aren't afraid of him. He realizes that he has no chance with us, so he just leaves us alone. We emerge as Conquerors...no...more than Conquerors. PRAYER: Lord, I thank You for giving me the courage to stand up to the enemy, and I thank You for being there to back me up. When I am strong in You, ...

NIGHT PRAYER Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken. From: Proverbs 3:25-26 INSPIRATION Confidence is a precious commodity. Some people have way too much of. Others spend their lives trying to obtain it. The good news is that, when we accept Christ, we get confidence as a bonus. He becomes our confidence. We don't have to fear sudden changes in our lives, when wickedness comes in an unexpected way. Because Christ is our confidence, we won't get caught up in the fear and anxiety of the things we cannot control. PRAYER Lord, thank You for being my confidence. You give me the ability to overcome the unexpected obstacles that come my way. Let me not be caught up in these "sudden fears" while I learn to find my confidence in You. Amen.

Morning Prayer For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: From: 1 Thessalonians 4:3 Inspiration Many times, we wonder, "'What is God's will for me? " Here, God tells us. It is his will that we be sanctified, meaning "made holy" or "set apart" from the filth and corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:4) And one major area of sanctification Paul mentions, fornication, because it is so prevalent and so degrading. Prayer Lord God, we do not always know what your will is as to each path or decision of life. But we always know that your will is for us to be holy even as you are holy. Sanctify us through your Word, which is truth. (John 17:17) Keep us unspotted from the world in regard to sexual sin and all other sins. Amen.

Night Prayer: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. From: Proverbs 3:5-6 Inspiration: When we "lean" on our own understanding, we fall prey to the sin of arrogance. Humans tend to be "human" centered. We think we know best, in all things. Over and Over again, we are exhorted in Scripture to "trust in God." He is faithful to direct our path. Our best bet is to let God be the one to tell us what to do. Our own understanding just doesn't cut it. We have to step out of our own way and let God do the leading. Anything else is foolish pride. Prayer: Father, help me to let you lead me. Help me to not depend on my own understanding but to acknowledge You in all my ways so that You can direct my path. Amen.

Night Prayer Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. From:  Isaiah 40:28-29 Inspiration We can find tremendous comfort in this passage. God is eternal. He has always been there and will always be there. He never gets tired, as we do. In fact, He gives us strength when we are weary. He understands things we cannot begin to understand and He helps us when we are weak. He is our strength and refuge. We can count on Him. PRAYER Father, I thank You for giving me strength when I grow weary. I praise You for Your wisdom and understanding. You are faithful to me in all Your dealings. Your love and Your strength endure forever. Amen.
